Half the Sky
I am in the middle of Half the Sky, and as I hear more and more about each story, I am more and more inclined to do something. A story where a tough woman resisted a man trying to capture her and they threatened to burn her house down is almost "the norm" in communities where sex trafficking is prevalent. There are usually gangs of men that will take women, or people promising young women a job or a home in a foreign place. The girls put their trust in these people giving them a "job," but then they capture and sell women. Not only is what happens in the beginning horrifying, trying to help doesn't always work. These women are sick (AIDs is a huge problem that is associated with sex trafficking) or addicted (they pump them with drugs to keep them subdued). Even if they are saved, there are many stories where women go back to it because they are ashamed, addicted, or desperate. It is a terrible cycle and it needs to be stopped before it is started, because that is the only way to keep women 100% safe from it.
