Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Currently I'm reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. Most of you probably know that it has recently been made into a major motion picture. I decided to read this book because I saw the preview for the movie and it looked like an interesting read. Right now I am only about 20 pages in, so I am still in the dark as to what the main plot of the story will be. As of now, the main character is named Oskar. Based on the way that he narrates (in 1st person) and how he converses with others, it is clear that he probably falls somewhere on the Autism Spectrum. This gives the book some very unique insights, as he is somewhat emotionally detached from what is going on. Oskar goes on lots of tangents, and his narrations weave through a variety of topics. He is very witty and humorous, and a lot of his remarks are funny because they are interesting ideas that average people can't think of and yet they are brilliantly true. It is clear that his father died in the attack on 9/11. It also appears that, although Oskar doesn't seem to mourn his father or feel sad, some of his autistic traits have either morphed or gone away after the event. This shows that his father dying did affect him in his own unique way. So far the book is very good and I am looking forward to seeing in what direction the plot is headed.
