Mountain Men
I took a pause in my book Johnny Tremain to start a new historical book I received recently it is called Firearms, Traps, and Tools of the Mountain Men. It is written by Carl P. Russell. The book is about Mountain Men, these are men who had been living alone in the mountains trapping animals with valuable furs to sell back east. Men had been doing this from pre-revolution era all the way to the end of the wild west era. These men were skilled hunters, trappers, and survivalists. The book talks about how Mountain Men survived through hunting small game and trapping animals, generally beaver. These men lived lonely lives, but also incredibly enjoyable. The book talks about what the men wore. They all were skilled in the art of crafting beaver hats, which is now a lost art. Thus far it is very interesting and I am almost done.

ReplyDeleteThis book sound like a fun read and seems like it would be a great chance to get away from an everyday chapter book. I will consider reading it as I am interested in books about survival and how things used to be for people that lived in the wild west without the easily accessed resources we have today.
