The most recent book that I read was Emil, by Erich Kastner. It is a fairly short book, but a fun read. The main characters name is Emil. Emil lives in a small town in the country named Newtown, it is a very old-fashioned town and he will notice that it is very different from Berlin. When he was a child, his father passed away and his mother who had no job, took up the profession of a hairdresser. Ever since his father died, his family has been making just enough money to survive. His grandmother lives in Berlin and he visits her for a week. He has to carry 140 marks on the train to take for his trip and his cousins who also live in Berlin. In his family, 140 marks is a lot of money and he is very nervous about getting it stolen. This book is one of the most predictable books I have read, but instead of making it boring because you think you know what is going to happen. Instead, it has the opposite effect of making you continue reading to find out the details, because it is a detective book and they use a lot of evidence. Little clues from the beginning of the book can become very handy later if you are going to understand the book. Overall, it was a very short, and fun book to read.
