Catching Fire

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are visited by President Snow on the day of their “victory tour,” and he says that he is angry at them for tricking the Capitol by threatening to commit suicide at the end of the Hunger Games. President Snow tells Katniss that with what they have done, they have started much discussion about it in the Capitol. She is told that, if she cannot persuade everybody in Panem that the only reason she and Peeta were going to commit suicide, is because they are madly in love and cannot stand living without each other, the Capitol will kill Katniss’s best friend, Gale.

During the victory tour, the first place Katniss and Peeta visit is District 11, where Katniss’s friend and ally throughout the Hunger Games lived, before she died. Katniss makes a speech thanking the district for their kind tributes. After, the tributes continue visiting all of the twelve districts and the Capitol. During an interview, Peeta and Katniss show their love for eachother hoping it would settle the argument between them and President Snow. Katniss learns later that their attempt has failed. When Peeta and Katniss return home, it is made known that for the 75th Hunger Games, 24 of the victors of past Hunger Games will be put back into the arena in a fight to death, yet again. Katniss knows that she and Peeta will both be put back into the arena, and has decided to completely give her life in protecting Peeta.
