Warriors Don't Cry
Melba Pattillo Beals's memoir, Warriors Don't Cry. Is a great memoir. At first I was not too excited because of how long it is and thinking, " I already know what happened... and I know the end!" How I wrong I was. The way Melba describes events in great detail amazes me and kept me intrigued. I loved hearing about the Little Rock Nine meetings with the NAACP. I also cried at some parts because I could not believe the cruelty of some people. On top of that, in this memoir you learn a lot about Melba's personal pain and family struggle. She makes you feel what she was feeling by allowing you as a reader to read her diary from that time. I dont want to ruin the book for you, but the quote I think describes the book best is on page 57, " You're a warrior on the battlefield for your Lord. God's warriors don't cry. Cause they trust that he's always by their side. The women of this family don't break down in the face of trouble. We act with courage, and with God's help, we ship trouble right out." Melba's grandma gives her this advice after a particularly hard day. I love
